Abstract
There are various striking similarities between the movements of Beethoven's
Second Symphony. Most notably, a rare harmonic progression is found at the
climax of three of its movements, and a similar event arises the climax of
the other movement. These interconnections help foster the feeling that the
Symphony unfolds a type of narrative, in which the first two movements seem
parodied by the final two.
